About the job

Google's software engineers develop the next‑generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large‑scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast‑paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full‑stack as we continue to push technology forward.

As a Senior Software Engineer for TV Systems Performance, you will serve as a technical anchor for ensuring Google TV devices deliver excellent performance. You will play a key role in performance tuning for major retail partner launches and optimizing Reference Designs to scale quality across the global ecosystem. In this role, you will bridge the gap between systems engineering and modern innovation, partnering with the team to evolve AI‑assisted tools that automate performance analysis. You will help drive architectural shifts like 64‑bit transitions and Mobile Generic Kernel Image (GKI) adoption while collaborating with SoC vendors on system‑level enhancements. We are looking for a self‑directed expert who can contribute to the team’s technical excellence, share domain expertise to unlock hardware efficiencies, and empower developers across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the performance tuning for top retail partner launches while optimizing Reference Designs to ensure scalability across the global device ecosystem.
  • Partner with the Tooling Lead to evolve Gemini‑assisted tools, transforming how the team conducts device performance analysis and optimization.
  • Lead the evaluations for major industry shifts, such as 64‑bit userspace transitions and Mobile GKI adoption, to optimize system resources and reduce hardware costs.
  • Partner with SoC vendors and hardware providers to advocate for and implement kernel/driver enhancements that optimize device throughput and resource utilization.
  • Partner with cross‑functional Google teams to align performance requirements and integrate system‑level optimizations into broader platform releases. Act as a technical anchor for the performance charter, providing architectural oversight and technical guidance to the team where necessary.
