Job summary

Farther is seeking a Software Engineer, Test Infrastructure (SETI) to design and build tooling and pipelines that keep our TypeScript codebase fast to test and safe to ship. You will develop testing frameworks, mock utilities, and scalable CI/CD processes across frontend and backend systems, aligning with reliability standards for financial services.

You will collaborate with engineering teams to ensure testability, instrument deployments, and maintain high signal quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering with a focus on testing infrastructure.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Cypress, Playwright).
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar).
• Experience with infrastructure as code (CDK, Terraform, or similar).
• Solid understanding of test automation patterns, mocking strategies, and test environment management.
• AWS Infra & Deployment experience.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration for test environments.
• Knowledge of database testing strategies and test data management.
• Strong foundation in software engineering principles and system design.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools for test infrastructure.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex testing issues.
• Strong written communication skills and documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust tooling and testing infrastructure to support engineering workflows across frontend and backend systems.
• Create comprehensive automation frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using Jest, Playwright, Vitest, and Cypress.

The Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer, Test Infrastructure (SETI) to help build the systems that keep our TypeScript codebase fast to test, easy to trust, and safe to ship. You'll focus on designing tools, frameworks, and pipelines that elevate the productivity and confidence of engineers working across both frontend and backend systems. You'll build infrastructure that scales with our growing team, promotes engineering best practices, and catches problems before they reach production. You'll work closely with engineering teams across the organization to ensure our testing ecosystem supports rapid development while maintaining the high reliability and security standards required in financial services.

Your Impact

• Design, build, and maintain robust tooling and testing infrastructure to support engineering workflows across our frontend and backend systems. Create comprehensive automation frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, leveraging tools like Jest, Playwright, Vitest, and Cypress
• Build intelligent CI/CD pipelines that run tests efficiently through advanced techniques like file-change tracking, smart test selection, and parallelization strategies
• Develop sophisticated utilities for mocking APIs, stubbing external services, and spinning up isolated testing environments that mirror production conditions
• Monitor test reliability and performance metrics to continuously drive improvements in feedback speed and signal quality across all engineering teams
• Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure code is testable, traceable, and properly instrumented to build confidence in our deployments
• Create comprehensive documentation and onboard teams to best practices in test architecture and optimized developer workflows
• Drive key technical decisions for testing infrastructure that supports our critical trading systems and portfolio management platform
• Establish testing standards and architectural patterns that enable rapid, confident product development across all our wealth management offerings
• Partner with backend teams to build reusable test fixtures and data factories for complex financial workflows and regulatory scenarios

The Ideal Match

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on testing infrastructure, developer tooling, or platform engineering
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Cypress, Playwright)
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar)
• Experience with infrastructure as code (CDK, Datadog, Terraform, or similar)
