Job summary

Security Benefit is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, to be the technical throughline for the New Annuity Products team. You will shape architecture, assess vendor capabilities, and guide internal platforms as a leadership peer.

You may prototype in rare cases and will ensure scalable, reliable solutions that ship fast. You will work with Financial Products leadership and vendor teams, report to the Senior Manager, Platform Engineering, and can be based in Topeka,

Qualifications

7+ years in software engineering or technical leadership.
Experience providing architectural oversight of vendor platforms and integrations.
Experience running vendor evaluations: due diligence, build-vs-buy, build-vs-configure.
Experience owning a product or platform roadmap and leading quarterly planning.
Full-stack, cloud-native knowledge (TypeScript/React, REST, SQL, AWS).
Insurance/retirement domain experience preferred.
Comfort collaborating with external vendor teams as a technical peer.

Responsibilities

Partner with business and product stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Own solution architecture for vendor systems and internal platforms.
Guide design decisions with vendors and internal teams.
Identify opportunities to automate handoffs between vendor systems and internal platforms.
Document processes and define future-state architecture and roadmap.
Coordinate integration of internal systems with third-party/vendor solutions.
Own release and deployment coordination across vendor and internal platforms.
Support QA by building test automation into the architecture.
Drive technical debt reduction and align with sprint cadence.
Plan quarterly feasibility and dependencies across platforms.
Promote AI-assisted tooling to improve efficiency and quality.
Lead incident response and post-mortems for complex production issues.
Mentor engineers and review architectural decisions.
Engage in hands-on development occasionally to unblock the team.
