Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying full-stack products.

Job description

Brex is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Task Workflows Platform team in Seattle. In this role, you will build and scale foundational backend systems that power essential product experiences across the company.

You will contribute to platforms such as multi-channel notifications, collaborative commenting, dynamic workflow rule builders, and task orchestration infrastructure. You will help evolve centralized systems into specialized, domain-specific solutions that better serve individual product areas.

The role involves solving distributed systems challenges, designing scalable APIs and rule-evaluation engines, and developing data models and orchestration logic for tailored task experiences.

You will also collaborate with teams across Brex to improve platform extensibility, reliability, and adoption. As the company expands its AI-native products, you will have opportunities to develop shared infrastructure and use AI to streamline customer workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers across the company to build and deliver new features and products from concept to deployment.
• Take end-to-end ownership of technical problems, considering user experience, data models, scalability, system operations, and performance metrics.
• Provide technical leadership by influencing the engineering roadmap, guiding architectural decisions, and mentoring team members.
• Partner with customer-facing teams, including Sales and Support, to understand customer needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Refine and optimize product features to deliver a high-quality user experience.
• Identify and implement improvements in system reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Maintain high engineering standards across codebases, infrastructure, and development processes.
• Design and improve distributed systems, scalable APIs, and workflow automation capabilities.
• Contribute to AI-powered product experiences and shared infrastructure for AI product development.

Required Qualifications

• At least 7 years of professional experience designing, developing, and deploying full-stack products.
• Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Python.
• Experience architecting, building, and maintaining scalable, highly available distributed systems.
• Expertise in SQL and/or NoSQL databases, including data modeling, schema design, and query performance optimization.
• Experience developing and maintaining RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services.
• Familiarity with modern frontend technologies and tools, including ES6+, React, TypeScript, and Webpack.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders in product, design, and operations.
• Proven ability to lead initiatives that influence broader teams or the organization.
• Experience designing and conducting in-product experiments, including A/B testing.
• Interest in using AI developer tools to improve engineering productivity and software development workflows.

Salary and Compensation

The expected annual base salary range for this position is $192,000 to $240,000.

The final starting salary will depend on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, and internal pay equity. Depending on the position offered, the overall compensation package may also include equity and other forms of compensation.
