Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the storage team within the infra organization. You will design, implement and operate large-scale distributed systems on in-house infrastructure to support storage needs, including caching and messaging queues.

Based at our San Mateo, CA headquarters, you will collaborate across teams to deliver reliable services, scale with demand and shape the roadmap for next-generation features while maintaining high availability and a strong on-call culture.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems handling billions of real-time requests per second.
• Experience running Active/Active distributed systems on container orchestrators like Kubernetes or Nomad and service discovery systems like Consul.
• Strong programming experience in Go, Java or C++.
• Strong scripting and test automation abilities.
• Experience with telemetry stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, AlertManager, Kibana).
• BS degree in Computer Science with at least 5 years hands-on experience.

• Improve and scale large distributed 24x7 services with high availability and elastic scalability.
• Design and build frameworks/tools to automate development, testing, cluster management and monitoring.

• Ensure high quality, reusable code without compromising site reliability.
• Influence strategy for next-gen product features and system capabilities.
• Improve SLA and end-to-end rollout time of the software suite.

As a Senior Software Engineer for the storage team within infra org, you’ll be innovating & running large scale distributed systems in-house in order to meet Roblox’s ever increasing challenges on storage business needs, such as caching, message queue.

You Will:

• Have a leading role in designing, implementing and running our internal Infra-as-a-Service offerings on top of a container orchestrator platform
• Improve & scale our large distributed 24x7 services and deliver features with urgency, cost efficiency, 4+ 9s availability and elastic scalability
• Design and build frameworks/tools to automate development, testing, cluster management and monitoring of mission critical services
• Collaborate with partner teams, producing project work plans, measurable metrics, delivery milestones , rollout plan, oncall alerts and runbooks while leveraging existing technology stack
• Give a high level of attention to create high quality & reusable code , keep development continuously without compromising site reliability
• Work with stakeholders to influence the strategy for the next generation of product features and system capabilities, identifying the best practical way to deliver impactful functionalities
• Improve SLA of the offering services and end-end rollout time of our suite of software solutions

You Have:

• Strong experience in designing, delivering & operating large-scale distributed systems handling billions of real-time requests per second.
• Strong experience & builder mindset to run large scale Active/Active distributed systems on top of container orchestrators like Kubernetes or Nomad and service discovery systems like Consul
• Strong experience with programming languages like Go, Java or C++
• Strong scripting and test automation abilities
• Experience with telemetry stacks, like Grafana, Prometheus monitoring, AlertManager and Kibana
• BS degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Computer Science, with at least 5 years of hands on experience

The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$243,290 – $295,250 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
