Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a senior engineer for the Search Product Infrastructure team in San Francisco, CA. You will design, build, and operate systems connecting models with search at scale, tackling orchestration, inference efficiency, experimentation, and reliability.

The role requires ownership from design to launch, working with researchers and partner teams. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office weekly and relocation assistance available for new hires.

Qualifications

• Significant experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience in search, information retrieval, ML infrastructure, or high-throughput online systems.
• Strong programming and systems debugging skills across languages and stacks.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve services that coordinate search classification, retrieval, ranking, and model inference.
• Improve end-to-end latency, throughput, and infrastructure efficiency.
• Build experimentation tooling to run reproducible A/B tests and measure impact.
• Own production reliability through observability and incident response.
• Build search APIs and interfaces that respect access controls and attribution.
