Job summary

Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Safety Foundation to architect, build, and scale the backend infrastructure powering content moderation, user safety, and account security across the Roblox platform.

You will help evolve an AI-first safety platform designed to handle 10x traffic growth, delivering low latency, auditability, and a developer-friendly experience for internal teams to integrate safety tools quickly.

Every day, over 100 million daily active users come to Roblox to explore, create, play, and connect across 3D immersive digital experiences.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Safety Foundation team, you will report to the Engineering Manager and help architect, build, and scale the core infrastructure backbone that powers content moderation, user safety, and account security across the entire Roblox platform. In this high-impact backend role, you will help rebuild the Safety Platform into an AI-first infrastructure capable of handling 10x traffic growth, supporting agentic and ML workflows, and providing a developer experience layer that enables internal engineering teams to integrate safety tools in hours rather than months.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Platform Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain distributed backend services powering real-time content moderation, safety workflows, and user security.
• Developer Experience & Tooling: Build a streamlined developer experience layer that allows cross-functional product teams to easily consume and integrate safety capabilities.
• AI-First Systems Evolution: Evolve the platform architecture to natively support agentic and machine learning safety workflows with low latency and complete auditability.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Trust & Safety ML, User Safety, Safety Operations, and Product teams to translate moderation needs into scalable platform capabilities.
• Full-Lifecycle Project Ownership: Drive engineering projects from initial design and prototyping through code review, load testing, deployment, and operational monitoring.

Practical Experience & Core Technologies

• 5+ years of hands-on experience building, operating, and scaling backend services and distributed systems in production environments.
• High proficiency in Go (Golang) or a similar compiled language (Go strongly preferred).
• Demonstrated experience or strong technical interest in building developer platforms, APIs, or internal platform tools.

Education & Work Logistics

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Ability to work onsite 3 days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) at Roblox HQ in San Mateo, CA.
• Note: Roblox may not be able to support certain visa categories or future H-1B sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience with CQRS (Command Query Responsibility Segregation), Event Sourcing, or event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with high-throughput NoSQL database technologies (e.g., Apache Cassandra, AWS DynamoDB).
• Background operating large-scale distributed infrastructure in high-volume consumer-internet platforms.
