Job summary

Stefanini Group is seeking a Software Engineer for a remote-capable contract position in the Richmond, VA area. The role emphasizes building and enhancing a toolset to monitor and compare configurations across colo environments, enabling proactive and reactive problem detection.

The candidate should have strong Java, Unix, and database skills, plus experience with Spring, MVC, and Jenkins/GIT. W2 candidates are preferred, and the role supports a fully remote work option.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent.
• 5 to 10 plus years of work related experience.
• Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication abilities.
• Demonstrates independent thinking and decision-making abilities.
• Strong programming skills in Java with strong object-oriented skills.
• Proficient knowledge of at least one Unix or Unix variant system.
• Proficient knowledge of at least one major relational database system.
• 3-4 plus years of experience in large systems software design and development experience.
• Experience with Spring, MVC, Java Script, Ajax is very helpful.
• Experience with Jenkins and GIT is helpful.
• Working knowledge of database SQL, creating objects and stored procedures is a plus.
• Good understanding of agile software development methodologies and the contrasts to waterfall methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software tooling for environment comparison across colo environments.
• Enhance tooling to support production and non-production anomaly detection.
• Add automation and visualize results for quick reference during incidents.
• Provide visibility of current environment states to developers and support teams.
• Capture data points like directory structure, ownership, permissions, and advanced configs (WebSphere, DB settings, TLS).
• Demonstrate tool viability for other business lines within a few months.
• Ensure parity across environments ahead of colo cutover.
• Consolidate data visibility across all environments in one view to reduce drift.
