Nelnet is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the New Ventures team. This remote, full-time role focuses on designing, coding, and delivering scalable software for innovative projects.

You will own projects end-to-end, mentor peers, and drive improvements across the development lifecycle. With 5+ years of production software experience in Python and Java, you will operate in an Agile environment and leverage AI-assisted tools to boost productivity and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Shipped production software in Python and Java.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and cloud/microservices.

Responsibilities

• Design robust solutions for complex projects and build scalable software.
• Write, test, and implement maintainable code meeting quality standards.
• Work in an Agile environment, adapt to evolving requirements.
• Own projects from conception to deployment with minimal supervision.
• Perform code audits, testing, and troubleshooting across the lifecycle.
• Audit systems and advocate for technical improvements.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers with code reviews and guidance.
• Collaborate to drive continuous improvements and technical decisions.
