Job summary

Topstep is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own core trading platform components, delivering real-time services and reliable architectures. You will shape architectural decisions and ensure scalable, maintainable systems across production operations.

You will work primarily in a modern .NET stack, with cloud-native services handling high-throughput workloads and occasional React/TypeScript frontend work. Mentorship and improving engineering standards are part of the role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems at scale.
• Proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem with production services experience.
• Experience designing service boundaries and API versioning in microservices or modular architectures.
• Experience building distributed, high-availability systems with asynchronous communication.
• Strong databases experience with PostgreSQL or SQL Server, including schema design and queries.
• Observability tools and distributed tracing in production environments.
• Proven track record of owning production systems, including debugging and incident response.
• Experience with Docker and AWS in cloud-native environments.
• Strong testing mindset across unit, integration, and system testing.
• Clear communication and ability to explain trade-offs to engineering and product stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and build services and APIs that power core trading platform capabilities.
• Own features end-to-end from design through production deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Collaborate with product and design to translate user needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Contribute to system architecture decisions and establish patterns for other teams.
• Write clean, well-tested code with focus on reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
• Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and drive reliability improvements.
• Build observability through metrics, logging, and distributed tracing.
• Occasionally work across the stack with React/TypeScript frontend features.
