Jobtailor in Colorado seeks an experienced backend software engineer to write, own, and ship production services for quantum computing control systems. You will debug across the stack from real-time kernels to distributed services and build tooling for researchers to run experiments autonomously.
You will develop CI/CD pipelines, maintain Docker/Kubernetes deployments, and create Python packages with C++ or Rust extensions in a Linux environment.
Write, own, and ship production backend services and control frameworks operating and calibrating neutral atom quantum computers
Debug and support every layer of the control stack, from real-time embedded kernels to distributed services
Build tooling enabling physicists and hardware engineers to run experiments independently
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines
Maintain containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
Develop and maintain Python packages with C++ or Rust extensions in a Linux-native environment
Work with experimental data, including time-series data, SQL and non-relational databases, realtime image analysis, and object detection from live quantum systems
Work directly with physicists and hardware engineers to translate scientific requirements into software controlling real quantum machines
Spend approximately 90% of the role writing and owning code
Demonstrates expertise in backend software engineering with a strong focus on Python, C++, and Rust for developing production systems. Proficient in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and scientific data processing.
