Description & Requirements

Bloomberg Connects is a rapidly growing, free platform that helps museums, galleries, and cultural spaces make their institutions, stories and dynamic content more engaging to audiences around the world. Launched in 2019, Connects features multimedia guides with unique content exclusive to each of our over 800 cultural institution partners across 33 countries.

As part of Bloomberg's culture of giving back, Connects is a joint effort between Bloomberg and Bloomberg Philanthropies in support of their work to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people by focusing on five key areas: the arts, education, the environment, government innovation, and public health.

We believe that technology opens doors, and we created Connects as a part of our mission to make art and culture accessible to all-in-person, at-home, and anywhere.
We are a team of designers, researchers, marketers, editors, engineers, and leaders working together to enhance our partner's capacity to reach audiences around the world and improve their visitor experience. Built through empathy & research, qualitative & quantitative data, experimentation & iteration, our products seek to delight and empower.

What's in it for you?

You will work alongside cultural partners at a global scale and build the tools and features to allow them onboard their unique content into our content management system. This position will be instrumental in helping facilitate all the rich art and cultural content into one system that is driving the Bloomberg Connects product. As our global product continues to scale, you will be given the unique opportunity to grow your technical skills and take on challenges while working closely alongside our multiple cross-functional teams.

We'll trust you to:

• Collaborate effectively as a vital part of our diverse team, working alongside other engineers, such as the visitor experience and data team, and alongside other teams within Bloomberg outside the Connects product
• Take responsibility for the CMS, API, and provide support to both cultural partners and our internal partner managers and marketing team
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for working with cultural institutions and making their content accessible to a global audience
• Proactively solve problems and find creative solutions

You'll need to have:

• 5+ years of professional experience with Javascript and React for responsive web development, as well as backend services like Node JS & SQL
• A degree such as Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience in a related technological field

We'd love to see:

• 2+ years of professional experience working with cloud/devops (e.g. AWS, docker, kubernetes)
• Experience writing clean code and comprehensive tests
• Experience being collaborative and effective in working with cross-functional teams, including non-technical stakeholders and designers
• Experience working with strict typing in TypeScript
• Experience working with localization
• Experience with accessibility needs
• Enthusiasm about mentorship and being a supportive team member
