Purpose
Performs complex analysis, design, development, testing, and debugging of computer software, including operating system architecture, software design, and selection of systems, languages, and equipment. Designs, develops, tests, and documents critical and complex application programs. Collaborates with stakeholders to define system scope and objectives, establish baselines, and set project standards. Supports the Customer Support Center overnight hours, working shifts between 6:00pm - 6:00am, including weekends and holidays.
Essential Functions
- Designs, codes, tests, and maintains applications; serves as a subject matter expert in software systems; develops interface design documentation; ensures compliance with hardware and software standards; delivers large-scale systems; adheres to quality and deployment standards.
- Conducts software analysis, including requirements and use case development; implements and documents source code; performs automated unit testing; reports on testing outcomes.
- Develops and tests software solutions for enterprise environments; analyzes functional and non-functional requirements; supports existing systems; identifies improvement opportunities; demonstrates experience with front-end and back-end programming, integration frameworks, and tools; assists in estimating development efforts.
- Provides technical support for high-visibility, critical issues; collaborates with cross-functional teams; recommends new technologies; extends open-source libraries; participates in product scoping and architecture discussions; evaluates emerging technologies; mentors junior engineers.
- Monitors IT infrastructure and applications; manages supporting technologies for peak efficiency and reliability.
- Acts as backup Shift Lead; completes shift summaries; provides real-time monitoring for mainframe and distributed systems; diagnoses and troubleshoots complex problems; ensures proper procedures for changes and fixes; communicates support issues; uses diagnostic tools; coordinates health check calls; manages job scheduling across platforms; maintains documentation; supports upgrades and releases; contributes to operational policies and SLAs; assists in audit responses; provides technical assistance; supports 24/7 on-call support; researches and resolves complex issues; trends data and metrics; assists in system administration; leads maintenance and upgrades; works with vendors; collaborates on projects; participates in disaster recovery efforts.
Supervisory Responsibility
Does not have direct reports but guides and mentors less experienced staff; may lead matrixed resources.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in IT or CS, or equivalent experience (additional 4 years).
Experience: 5+ years in software development, coding, architecture, and requirements analysis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work shifts 6:00pm-6:00am, including weekends and holidays.
- Effective communication skills across all levels.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Understanding of SDLC.
- Experience with integrating complex systems.
- Knowledge of programming languages (JavaScript, C, Python, etc.).
- Knowledge of cloud (AWS, Azure), database (SQL, Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL), and software engineering practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and testing practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of CA7, CICS, DB2, and related tools and commands.
- UNIX and Windows command-line skills.
- Experience with DB2, TSM, SAN, network protocols, and storage management.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change.
Salary Range: $94,392 - $187,473
