7Seventy is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Optimizer to design, build, and maintain core optimization technology and data-intensive, full-stack systems. You will lead projects across optimization algorithms, model-builders, backend services, asynchronous job orchestration, ML, and generative AI.

You will own production readiness, testing, observability, experiments, and on-call support. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product, and translate complex scheduling needs into reliable

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software development experience with a demonstrated record of shipping customer-facing value.
• Proven experience driving software delivery for complex technical projects, including partnering with Product stakeholders, defining roadmaps and tasks, and presenting outcomes to external stakeholders.
• Experience developing and maintaining scalable web applications, implementing unit and integration tests, and working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in a fast-moving startup environment with ownership and rapid delivery and learning.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product to identify improvements to core optimization algorithms and the full-stack job orchestration framework.
• Research and implement extensions to optimization tech, including generative AI and ML to improve accuracy and speed.
• Lead major technical projects and initiatives while supporting the broader product squad.
• Define ambiguous opportunities, establish direction, and translate them into executable engineering work.
• Provide technical leadership across key areas of the optimizer technology stack and contribute to decisions beyond the immediate squad.
• Apply strong communication and project management to ensure timely, high-quality software delivery.
• Troubleshoot customer issues and deliver timely technical resolutions for reliable scheduling.
• Participate in limited on-call responsibilities as needed.
• Establish and improve testing and observability for production optimization systems.

About the Role

This opportunity is for a Senior Software Engineer, Optimizer responsible for designing, building, and maintaining core optimization technology and the full-stack, data-intensive systems that support it. The role leads challenging technical projects across optimization algorithms, model-builders, backend services, asynchronous job orchestration, machine learning, and generative AI.

The position also owns key aspects of production readiness and scale, including testing, observability, experiments, troubleshooting, and limited on-call support. You will partner with Product, provide technical leadership across critical areas of the stack, mentor junior engineers, and help turn complex scheduling requirements into reliable, scalable software.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Required Experience

• 4+ years of software development experience with a demonstrated record of shipping customer-facing value and contributing across the technology stack as needed.
• Proven experience driving software delivery for complex technical projects, including partnering with Product stakeholders, making critical decisions, defining project roadmaps and work tasks, and presenting outcomes to external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to learn complex product requirements and challenging technical domains quickly and make meaningful engineering contributions.
• Experience developing and maintaining scalable web applications, implementing unit and integration tests, and working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working effectively in a fast-moving startup environment with significant ownership, self-direction, and a focus on rapid delivery and learning.

Required Skills

• Deep knowledge in at least some of the following areas, combined with strong interest and ability to learn the others: linear optimization modeling and solvers, machine learning-intensive application stacks, generative AI product and infrastructure stacks, backend APIs, and asynchronous task development.
• Ability to contribute across other critical parts of the technology stack when needed, including frontend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data engineering.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills for complex optimization, full-stack, and data-intensive systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional engineering environments.
• Commitment to continuous improvement through code reviews, pairing, and collaborative problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in education technology is a plus but not required.

• This is a fully remote role within the United States.
• Candidates based in New York or Boston are preferred, but these locations are not required.
