Lensa is a career site that helps job seekers find great jobs in the US. We are not a staffing firm or agency. Lensa does not hire directly for these jobs, but promotes jobs on LinkedIn on behalf of its direct clients, recruitment ad agencies, and marketing partners. Lensa partners with DirectEmployers to promote this job for Cisco.

Splunk, a Cisco company, is building a safer and more resilient digital world with an end-to-end full stack platform made for a hybrid, multi-cloud world. Leading enterprises use our unified security and observability platform to keep their digital systems secure and reliable. Our customers love our technology, but it's our caring employees that make Splunk stand out as an amazing career destination. No matter where in the world or what level of the organization, we approach our work with kindness. So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you. Come help organizations be their best, while you reach new heights with a team that has your back.

Role Summary

As applications and systems become more sophisticated and user experience is at high stake, observability - the ability to monitor and understand the systems and how they impact users, becomes one of the biggest challenges for engineering teams. We are building world-class tools to help engineers deliver better, faster, and more reliable and cost-effective applications. Join us in developing a distributed, real-time, multi-tenant streaming platform that allows customers and developers to analyze massive amounts of data from a multitude of devices, operating systems, logs, metrics, traces and more in a scalable and reliable way.

  • Lead or own the design of new systems and drive the implementations.
  • Identify and drive the burndown of technical debt
  • Identify improvement opportunities in areas of engineering excellence and operation excellence, and make them a reality
  • Participate in on-call rotations, post-incident reviews, and other operational duties to ensure service delivery quality
  • Debug and provide solutions or fixes to customer-reported issues or requirements.
  • Helps team estimate work across sprints and quarters
  • Contribute to grow junior engineers through design & code review, tech talks, mentoring, and pair-programming.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience with a technical bachelor’s degree; or equivalent practical experience; or 3 years and a technical Master’s degree; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Proficiency with "Big Data" technologies such as Apache Druid, Presto/Trino, Apache Spark, or Apache Iceberg.
  • Familiarity with other scalable data solutions like ElasticSearch, InfluxDB, Clickhouse, Redshift, or Snowflake.
  • Passionate about building, observing, and operating distributed systems at scale in production.
  • Solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in operating systems, networks, data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and software design
  • Experience developing, debugging, and performance tuning highly concurrent systems
  • Ability to lead complicated technical decisions and mentor other junior engineers
  • Solid knowledge and production programming experience in at least one of Java/C#/Go
  • Experience with test-driven development, developing different levels of automated tests, such as unit test, functional test, integration test, system test, or performance / load test
  • Prior experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and GCP
