Job description

Bluebird Kids Health is a dynamic organization that provides underserved communities with new access to value-based pediatric primary care. We are on a mission to provide exceptional care, so every child can thrive . We offer comprehensive, evidence-based primary and urgent care services to children and their families, with support around-the-clock. Our care model includes robust care coordination, chronic disease management, and other population health supports. Our success is measured by exceptional health outcomes, lower medical costs, an outstanding child and family experience, and a rewarding environment for our clinicians and staff.

Position Description

We’re hiring a full-stack Senior Software Engineer to help launch our engineering team—shaping not only our tech stack, but also our product vision, team culture, and development practices. You’ll build intuitive, reliable, and secure digital experiences that make it easier for families to care for their kids and for providers to deliver exceptional pediatric care. From mobile tools for parents to internal workflows for clinical teams to complex integrations with healthcare systems, your work will directly improve the lives of children across the country.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and operations stakeholders, working across a modern stack that includes React, React Native, TypeScript, Python, Django, and AWS. While you may lean front-end or back-end, you should feel confident navigating across the stack. This is a rare opportunity to join a mission-driven team at the ground level, contribute to something meaningful, and grow with us as we scale nationally.

What You’ll Do

  • Build delightful, secure, and responsive web and mobile apps for families
  • Help define what we build, not just how we build it—your input will influence priorities, UX, and technical direction
  • Design and maintain internal tools that support providers and clinical staff
  • Help establish engineering standards, workflows, testing practices, and documentation
  • Write maintainable, tested, and well-documented code
  • Integrate with healthcare data systems and APIs (e.g., FHIR, HIEs)
  • Participate in sprint planning and Kanban flows
  • Contribute to a collaborative and mission-driven engineering culture

What You’ll Need

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks (ReactJS/React Native) and back-end frameworks (Django or similar)
  • Familiarity with git, AWS, and CI/CD practices
  • Experience working with APIs and data models, ideally in regulated environments
  • Clear communication skills and strong collaboration habits
  • Self-motivated, organized, and excited to help build a team and new products from the ground up
  • Based in the U.S. and authorized to work without visa sponsorship (East Coast time zone preferred)

Bonus Points

  • Experience with developing a React Native mobile app
  • Experience with healthcare data models and standards (FHIR, HL7, HIEs)
  • Background working in early-stage startups or fast-paced environments
  • Familiarity with pediatric or family health applications

What We Offer

1. The opportunity to serve within a mission-driven pediatric care delivery organization.

2. A competitive compensation package with performance incentives and, for some roles, equity participation.

3. A collaborative and dynamic workplace with significant professional growth opportunities.

4. A diverse and inclusive company culture that values every team member's contribution to our mission.

5. Competitive medical, vision, and dental insurance products.

6. Other programs including 401k matching, employee assistance, caregiver support, commuter benefits, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, short- and long-term disability benefits, and other exclusive employee benefits.

7. Generous paid time off.

8. Fully remote or hybrid with a fantastic office in Needham, MA—complete with snacks, beverages, and friendly faces.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
