Job summary

Bloomberg is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Media API Platform in New York. You will own and scale the core API layer for Bloomberg Media, building reliable, scalable APIs with GraphQL, TypeScript/Node, Java/Kotlin, and AWS, while enabling AI-assisted tooling and federated graph development.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and content teams, and drive IAM adoption, observability, and job scheduling improvements for offline workflows, aiming to accelerate feature

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and running backend services in production.
• Expertise in at least one of JavaScript/TypeScript (Node), Java, Kotlin, or Python.
• A solid grasp of distributed systems: service-to-service communication, caching, rate limiting, failure modes, and reliability at scale.
• Real, current use of AI-assisted and agentic engineering tools in your own work.
• Experience debugging production issues at web scale with HTTP, DNS, TLS, proxies, load balancers, and observability tools.
• Strong cross-team collaboration and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert GraphQL guidance to client developer teams on best practices.
• Grow our graph in a secure way for future agentic clients.
• Develop and promote internal and open-source GraphQL tooling for seamless deployments and governance.
• Implement agentic workflows to ensure graph quality and speed of development.
• Drive IAM adoption, observability, and upgraded job scheduling services for offline workflows.
• Analyze open-source and vendor products to advise buy vs build decisions.
• Partner closely with product and content teams, leading technical decisions and mentoring engineers.
