Job summary

Second Nature is seeking a highly experienced Senior/Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of innovative, scalable software solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems while mentoring junior engineers.

You will contribute to architecture, ensure performance and maintainability, and help shape the company's technology strategy in a remote-first setup within the United States.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong design and architecture skills.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience with AWS, PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, etc.).
• Knowledge of architectural patterns: microservices, distributed systems, hexagonal architecture, DDD.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, architecture and development of high-performance, scalable software systems.
• Write, test and maintain high-quality code meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
• Contribute to architectural decisions ensuring scalability and maintainability.
• Uphold coding standards and conduct reviews to ensure quality.
• Analyze and resolve complex technical issues to improve performance.
• Collaborate with product, design and other engineers to translate requirements into solutions.
• Drive continuous improvements in code quality and processes.
• Create and maintain architecture diagrams and API specs; communicate decisions clearly.
• Participate in agile processes including sprint planning and reviews.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies to drive innovation.
