Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Software Engineer for our Missile Defense team, based in Mount Laurel, NJ. You will design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services, providing technical input in reviews and leading implementation of features across the full software lifecycle.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in a technical discipline, 7+ years of experience, and strong skills in C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript, with Linux, Git, SQL (PostgreSQL), and container

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
7+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong experience developing software in one or more languages such as C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
Experience working in Linux-based environments.
Experience supporting integration, test execution, and release activities across teams.
Strong experience with SQL and relational database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL).
Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Podman, or OCI-compliant containers.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to travel up to 10% as required.

About The Role: Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Software Engineer to be part of our Missile Defense team and based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location. Leveraging advanced software automation, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI-driven capabilities, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense. The company is dedicated to transforming defense systems through innovation, efficiency, and mission-critical results.

Clearance & Location Requirements

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities

Knowledge of Aegis Weapon System concepts, architectures, or related combat systems.
Experience supporting development, modernization, or sustainment of complex software systems.
Experience with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Groovy.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices.
Experience working in Agile development environments.
Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and secure software development practices.
Experience with cloud-native technologies, containerization, or platform engineering concepts.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and stakeholder communication.
Demonstrated ownership, initiative, and ability to independently drive technical tasks to completion.

Pay Range

$135,000-$231,000 or $164,000 - $273,000
