Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Software Engineer in Mount Laurel, NJ to join the Missile Defense team. You will design, develop, and maintain software applications and services supporting DoD programs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-quality solutions.

Qualified candidates have 3+ years of experience, proficiency in C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript, and familiarity with Linux, Git, and PostgreSQL.

Description

About The Role: Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Software Engineer to be part of our Missile Defense team and based out of our Mount Laurel, NJ location.

Leveraging advanced software automation, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI-driven workflows, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense. The company is dedicated to transforming defense systems through innovation, efficiency, and mission‑critical results.

Clearance & Location Requirements:

• All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
• This is a 100% on-site position, based at our Mount Laurel, NJ office.

Key Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement features, resolve defects, and enhance system capabilities.
• Develop high-quality, maintainable code in accordance with engineering, security, and quality standards.
• Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis activities.
• Integrate software components, APIs, and third‑party technologies into existing systems.
• Support software deployment, modernization, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, design artifacts, and operational procedures.
• Contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis through deployment and sustainment.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Who You Are (Required):

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience developing software using one or more programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
• Experience working in Linux‑based environments.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL).
• Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker, Podman, or OCI‑compliant containers.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to travel up to 10% as required.

What Makes You Stand Out:

• Prior professional experience with Aegis Weapon System.
• Experience supporting the development, modernization, or sustainment of complex software systems.
• Experience with scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Groovy.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and secure software development practices.
• Experience with cloud‑native technologies, container orchestration, or platform engineering concepts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical solutions and communicate project status effectively.
• Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and ability to independently drive technical tasks to completion

Pay Range*: $90,000 - $150,000 or $114,000 - $184,000

Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
