Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Mission Technologies, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the ITS-SD team. This fully remote role supports design, development, and deployment of shore-based and shipboard software, including JAAR and DCD systems, to enhance Navy training and mission readiness.

You will work with a small Agile team, translate requirements into solutions, resolve issues, and maintain development docs while traveling for deployment as needed.

Qualifications

  • 9+ years of relevant experience with a related degree, or 13+ years with high school diploma.
  • Experience implementing Agile and Scrum development methodologies.
  • Proficiency in software design and development using C#, C++, or Angular.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a small Agile software team and customers to support sprint planning, execution, and reviews.
  • Develop software solutions by interpreting requirements and consulting with end users.
  • Investigate and resolve software issues and trouble reports.
  • Create and maintain software development documentation and dependencies.
  • Write clean, maintainable code with good commenting.
  • Perform hands-on development and troubleshooting in lab and shipboard settings.

Job Description

Mission Technologies' System Integration group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Integrated Training Systems Software Development (ITS-SD) team. This full-time remote position supports the design, development, and deployment of both shore-based and shipboard software applications, including the Joint After Action Review (JAAR) and Data Collection and Display (DCD) systems.

By designing and deploying mission-critical solutions, the Software Engineer helps ensure seamless execution of distributed training environments across tactical platforms.

  • Collaborate with a small Agile software team and customers to support sprint planning, execution, and reviews
  • Develop software solutions by interpreting requirements and consulting with end users
  • Investigate and resolve system issues, including analyzing and resolving Software Trouble Reports
  • Create and maintain software development documentation, including notebooks, sequence diagrams, and dependencies
  • Write clean, maintainable code with strong commenting and documentation practices
  • Perform hands-on development and troubleshooting, using innovative approaches to solve technical problems
  • Conduct developer testing in lab environments and shipboard settings (as required) to verify compliance with requirements
  • Participate in limited travel to support software installation and testing efforts
Minimum Qualifications
  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Experience implementing Agile and Scrum development methodologies
  • Proficiency in software design and development using one or more of the following/related:
    • C#
    • C++
    • Angular framework
  • Significant database experience with one or more of the following/related:
    • PostgreSQL
    • Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Must possess a current or active Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain one
  • Security+ certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
Preferred Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Operational or development knowledge of military training systems
  • CompTIA Security+ CE certification (or equivalent) to meet DoD requirements for IAT Level II roles under DoD 8570 and SECNAV M-5239.2
  • Experience using:
    • JIRA (project tracking)
    • Confluence (documentation)
    • GitLab (source control)
    • Containers: Docker and Kubernetes
    • .NET build scripts, dependency management
    • CI/CD pipelines
