Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for High Voltage Battery Sensor Communication. You will design, develop, and validate embedded software for HV sensor communication, leveraging C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink in a mechatronic environment.

You will lead an Agile team and collaborate across departments to deliver robust software for automotive electronic control units. Responsibilities include test automation, hardware-in-the-loop validation, and effective documentation linking

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of embedded controls software experience.
  • BS in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer engineering or CS.
  • Proficient in C/C++ programming.
  • Experience with model-based development (MATLAB/Simulink) and code generation.
  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN/ARXML/Ethernet.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and validate software for embedded controls in electrification domain for High Voltage Battery Sensor Communication and sensing.
  • Lead agile Scrum team members to deliver software solutions.
  • Coordinate with Systems, Electrical Architecture, and other departments.
  • Document requirements and link to test cases; demonstrate software functionality.
  • Use automated test tools in build environments, benches, and vehicles.
  • Validate software features using hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle systems.

Senior Software Engineer – High Voltage Battery Sensor Communication
  • Design, develop and validate software for embedded controls systems in the electrification domain for High Voltage Battery Sensor Communication / Wired-Wireless Communication and Sensing.
  • Design, development and implementation of Physics and Controls requirements to continuously improve software for mechatronic controls and diagnostics strategies as well as controller communication.
  • Test & demonstrate software functionality & readiness.
  • Supply common solutions across all GM owned software.
  • Document requirements for design solutions and link them to test cases that can demonstrate software functionality.
  • Utilize automated test tools in build environments, benches, and vehicles to verify functionality of the feature at the Controller, System and Vehicle level.
  • Utilize hardware in the loop and vehicle systems to continuously validate software features and improvements.
  • Continuously utilize data for software feature refinement and improvement.
Team Collaboration
  • Provide leadership to Agile Scrum team members to deliver software solutions.
  • Lead, coordinate and collaborate with departments outside VMEC such as Systems & Safety, Electrical Architecture, Software Defined Vehicle, Calibration and Vehicle Performance.
  • Provide a voice in software planning events, share ideas & learnings and help teach/train others.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
Required Skillset
  • BS in Engineering – Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or BS in Computer Science.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with proven technical and professional skills in embedded controls software.
  • Proficient in C, C++ programming.
  • Experience with C hand code and/or MATLAB/Simulink model-based development; working knowledge of GitHub, Optimus, CPPu, INCA, and MDK.
  • Knowledge of Auto Code Generation.
  • Outstanding levels of interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as required.
  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self‑directed.
  • Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer‑centric.
Preferred Skills
  • MS in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or Computer Science.
  • Experience with JIRA and Scaled Agile Framework.
  • High Voltage Battery Sensor Communication.
  • Experience with bootloader, embedded operating systems, controller communication or diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR standards and methodology.
  • Knowledge and experience with CAN, LIN, ARXML, or Ethernet communications protocol.
  • Some experience with artificial intelligence (AI) for software development
