Job summary

Workday in Pleasanton, CA seeks a Senior Software Development Engineer to own the architectural design of core platforms and to write scalable, low-latency code. You will profile, optimize, and champion performance across the data layer and services.

You’ll collaborate with the Cloud Infrastructure team on AWS, drive benchmarking, and mentor engineers to raise the bar for code quality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical work experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience with high-concurrency production code.
• 4+ years designing scalable, distributed microservices architectures.
• Proven performance issues diagnosis and resolution, memory leaks, CPU bottlenecks.
• Hands-on profiling/APM tools experience (Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch).
• Strong SQL/NoSQL optimization and multi‑tier caching knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect high-performance services for low latency and high throughput.
• Write core production-grade code and refactor legacy components for efficiency.
• Profile, diagnose and fix performance bottlenecks across systems.
• Optimize the data layer with caching, schemas, and serialization.
• Collaborate with Cloud Infrastructure to align with AWS architecture.
• Lead design reviews and mentor engineers on performance-first coding.
• Establish micro-benchmarking and load testing in CI/CD pipelines.
