Job Description

Workplace Classification: Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren, MI or Austin, TX Tech Center at least three times per week, or as dictated by the business.

The Role: The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer within the Product Development (PD) Business Systems organization in Vehicle Engineering & Quality IT (VEQ) is responsible for developing software applications supporting the Vehicle Timing business process. The ideal candidate will work with applications involving complex data requirements, providing solutions using industry-standard methodologies. You will write software based on detailed requirements and oversee development activities to ensure delivery of high-quality capabilities aligned with GM's objectives for a greenfield application.

This role offers opportunities to advise, coach, and mentor software engineers, impacting the new application and aiding in the development of junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical efforts in developing applications with various tools, languages, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Demonstrate mastery of multiple programming languages and tools.
  • Perform performance tuning and usability assessments.
  • Identify and remediate software issues related to code, security, patterns, frameworks, and usability.
  • Integrate software with existing systems.
  • Automate unit and end-to-end testing to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Guide and mentor fellow developers and team members.
  • Maintain compliance with GM standards and industry methodologies.
  • Model GM's values and build a positive culture.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of full stack application development experience with Java/JEE and Angular or React.
  • 3+ years experience with Kubernetes/Docker, Quarkus, and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • 3+ years experience with complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures.
  • 3+ years experience working within SCRUM methodologies.
  • 3+ years experience with languages such as SQL and Python, and big data technologies like Hadoop and Spark.
  • Technical writing knowledge for system design and user documentation, meeting GM standards.
