Job summary

RTX, a premier aerospace and defense company, seeks a Senior Software Engineer specialized in front‑end training system software to join the Sterling, VA team onsite. You will build, test, and integrate front‑end components for realistic simulators and training systems with C# and WPF on agile teams.

Ideal candidates bring strong C# and WPF experience, Agile practices, and the ability to work across teams; US government security clearance is required. Occasional travel to sites may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • Degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government security clearance required.
  • Proficiency in C# and WPF front-end development.

Position Details

We are currently searching for a Sr. Software Engineer to join our team in Sterling VA within the Strategic Defense Solutions (SDS) business area. Our teams develop and build highly realistic simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers. Devices range in complexity from desktop training to high‑fidelity weapon system and full‑flight training systems, including full visual motion and simulator interoperability.

What You Will Do
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test software on cross‑functional agile teams to deliver solutions within budget, scope, and schedule constraints.
  • Serve as a highly motivated software development focal who exhibits ownership of and accountability for committed objectives.
  • Assist in analysis and decomposition of features.
  • Make and influence decisions which impact cost, schedule, and technical performance at a team level.
  • Perform multi‑threaded software debugging.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Perform bidding and proposal activities to support the acquisition of new business.
  • Contribute to software and systems engineering requirements capture and analysis.
  • Travel to domestic and international customer sites to support training events and product installations.
You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • Must have extensive experience working with C# and WPF for front‑end development.
  • Have experience with agile development practices and general software engineering design principles.

  • Familiarity with Windows development environments.
  • Candidate exhibits leader‑like qualities and has a willingness to share knowledge and build up peers.
  • Proven track record of cross‑team coordination and customer working group collaboration.
  • Experience using Visual Studio.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and Agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Perl, etc.).
  • Usage of source code control tools (SVN, GIT, ClearCase, etc.).
  • Usage of ALM tools (JIRA, Confluence, Crucible, Bamboo).
  • Previous simulation experience.
  • Previous avionics experience.

  • The salary range for this role is 95,500 USD - 181,700 USD.
