Job summary

Capital One in McLean, VA is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive a portfolio of distributed microservices and full-stack systems, shaping architecture and regulatory-compliant solutions for millions of customers.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product managers, and deliver cloud-based applications using JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, Go, and AWS. A strong background in cloud, open source, and agile practices is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply).
• At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
• Master's Degree is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in at least one of: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service (preferred).
• 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks (preferred).
• 1+ years of people management experience (preferred).
• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices (preferred).
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices and full stack systems.
• Mentor other members of the engineering community and stay current with tech trends.
• Collaborate with digital product managers and deliver cloud-based solutions for millions of users.
