Job summary

Mashgin is seeking an engineer to build and own a 0-to-1 pipeline using in-store cameras. You will handle capture, encoding, and transport decisions, balancing on-site processing with cloud ingestion across thousands of stores with varied networks and hardware.

You will work in a hands-on role, writing code and defining architecture with some ambiguity, collaborating across hardware, ML, and backend teams to ship the first features and prove the pipeline works.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of coding experience with a track record of shipping production code yourself.
• B.S. or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience).
• Strong Python, plus comfort with other languages/tools as needed.
• Hands-on experience with video codecs, encoding, and streaming protocols (video player / media pipeline).
• Experience touching both edge/device code and cloud services.
• Built something from zero before (new service or early system).
• Comfortable being among few who understand parts of the system for a while.

Responsibilities

• Write end-to-end code for a 0-to-1 pipeline: capture feeds, encode, and route on-site or to cloud.
• Make codec and streaming-protocol decisions and balance bitrate/quality.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions with incomplete information and iterate as conditions change.
• Get first features working end-to-end (e.g., monitoring view or feeding footage to an AI feature).
• Collaborate across hardware, ML, and backend to define what good looks like for the pipeline.
• Handle real store hardware constraints and network variability; adapt accordingly.
