Job summary

Octane Lending is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build features and infrastructure for our decisioning (automated underwriting) team. You will work on the backend with Python, Django, and PostgreSQL, designing scalable systems and mentoring engineers.

You’ll contribute across the stack, ensure high-quality code, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver fast, reliable financial software used by dealerships nationwide.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience; BS/MS in CS or related field preferred.
• Proficient in at least one modern language (Python, Java, Node.js).
• Experience designing and delivering scalable solutions end-to-end.
• Hands-on with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure automation (Terraform, CDK).
• Advanced SQL skills with PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle experience.
• Experience building/deploying containers with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Active code reviews and PR workflows; strong Git practices.

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build features and infrastructure for our decisioning (automated underwriting) team. Used by dealerships across the country, this product provides a streamlined workflow for dealerships to get fast, flexible financing to their customers. Working with a team of passionate, experienced engineers, you'll work throughout the backend of our stack with technologies such as Python, Django, PostgreSQL.

This isn't just about writing code; it's about engineering solutions. You will work alongside a passionate group of veteran engineers to architect scalable systems, mentor growing talent, and ensure our marketplace remains the gold standard for speed and reliability.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field preferred.
• Deep proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, Node.js).
• Proven track record of designing, building, and delivering scalable technical solutions end-to-end.
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure automation (Terraform, CDK, or similar).
• Advanced SQL skills and extensive hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle).
• Direct experience building and deploying application containers using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Active participation in code reviews, Pull Request workflows, and version control best practices (GitHub, Bitbucket, or Azure DevOps).
• Demonstrated success mentoring junior developers, driving technical alignment, and fostering engineering growth.
• Solutions-oriented mindset with strong initiative, accountability, and communication skills within collaborative team environments.
• Ability to partner effectively across cross-functional teams to solve complex problems and deliver high-quality features.

Compensation

In addition to salary, Total Rewards include bonus eligibility, a stock option package, and benefits as outlined below. The role described above offers a base salary of $130,000 to $170,000 + corporate bonus eligibility. Your offer will be based on location, the alignment of your qualifications with the requirements of the job and internal equity.
