Job description

Alma is on a mission to simplify access to high-quality, affordable mental health care. We do this by making it easy and financially rewarding for therapists to accept insurance and offer in-network care. When a provider joins Alma, they gain access to a suite of tools that not only help them better run their business, but also grow it sustainably and develop as a provider. Alma is available in all 50 states, with over 20,000 therapists in our growing network. Anyone looking for a therapist can browse Alma’s free directory.

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Core Services, to contribute to building foundational services that will shape our engineering platform. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to develop and deliver core platform capabilities that accelerate product development across the organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Enabling Developer Independence: Contribute to building frameworks and shared services that empower product teams to independently create, deploy, and operate new microservices. Your work will directly support the adoption of these patterns, reducing duplicated effort and inconsistencies.
  • Improving Development & Deployment Speed: Implement reusable services and tooling that help teams test, deploy, and iterate quickly. Your contributions will be measured by improvements in deployment frequency and a reduction in lead time for changes and troubleshooting time.
  • Accelerating AI-Driven Solutions: Collaborate with senior engineers to implement opportunities to leverage AI for internal workflows and development processes. You will help research, recommend, and integrate AI solutions for things like intelligent automation and development team assistance.
  • Project Execution: Implement well-defined project plans and deliver high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Engineering Mentorship: You'll mentor junior engineers and help uphold the team's technical standards.
  • Technical Implementation: Design and build maintainable, scalable services and APIs. Our stack includes Python, Django, MySQL, React, and TypeScript, but we welcome strong engineers from other backgrounds who can learn quickly.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with team leads, product managers, and other engineers to ensure solutions are practical and aligned with product goals.

Who you are:

  • Systems Implementation: Experience implementing distributed systems, APIs, or microservices that are scalable and resilient.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and solve well-defined problems within the team's scope.
  • Technical Skills: Strong command of a modern backend language and the ability to apply testing, monitoring, and secure coding practices.
  • Collaboration: The ability to work effectively within a team and with cross-functional partners to deliver shared solutions.

Benefits include health insurance plans, monthly therapy and wellness stipends, financial wellness benefits, and more.
