Job summary

Alteryx, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Plane Transport team within Cloud Platform Engineering. You will design, build, and operate backend services and APIs in Go, focusing on secure connectivity across distributed cloud environments.

Expect ownership from design through production, with occasional frontend work in TypeScript/React. The role emphasizes scalable, reliable cloud-native services across AWS and GCP, plus collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend development experience using Go or a comparable backend language with productivity in Go.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production services using REST APIs, microservices, and distributed system architectures.
• Hands-on experience developing and operating cloud-native applications in environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including HTTP/TLS, TCP/IP, DNS, and service-to-service communication.

Position Overview

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Plane Transport team within Cloud Platform Engineering. Our team builds and operates foundational services that enable secure, reliable communication between Alteryx Cloud, data planes, and customer environments. Our work includes Data Bridge, which enables customers to securely access private data sources, along with shared platform services for connectivity, networking, registration, and orchestration across distributed cloud environments. This is a hands‑on, backend‑focused engineering role, primarily developing services and APIs in Go, with some opportunities to contribute to frontend applications using TypeScript and React. You'll take ownership of complex technical initiatives, drive solutions from design through production, influence technical decisions, and help mentor and support other engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems, primarily using Go.
• Lead the design and implementation of secure connectivity solutions involving service registration, orchestration, routing, and proxy/relay-based communication.
• Own complex technical initiatives end-to-end, including solution design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Design and improve cloud‑native services across AWS and GCP, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
• Contribute to frontend applications and platform management experiences using TypeScript and React when needed.
• Investigate and resolve complex issues spanning application code, cloud infrastructure, networking, and multiple distributed services.
• Drive improvements in automated testing, system observability, monitoring, and operational readiness.
• Lead and contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, and architectural decisions while mentoring other engineers.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and other engineering teams to deliver cross‑functional solutions.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation, troubleshooting production issues, identifying root causes, and driving improvements that prevent recurring problems.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Strong backend development experience using Go or a comparable backend language, with the ability to become productive in Go.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production services using REST APIs, microservices, and distributed system architectures.
• Hands‑on experience developing and operating cloud‑native applications in environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including HTTP/TLS, TCP/IP, DNS, and service-to-service communication.
• Experience designing systems for scalability, reliability, fault tolerance, and failure recovery.
• Ability to independently investigate and troubleshoot complex issues spanning application code, infrastructure, and multiple services.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern software development practices.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to independently drive technical decisions and complex engineering work.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TypeScript, React, or similar frontend technologies.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, or other cloud-native tooling.
• Experience with cloud networking technologies such as AWS PrivateLink, GCP Private Service Connect, VPC networking, proxies, or secure tunneling.
• Experience with event‑driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, Redis, or Pub/Sub.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog, metrics, logging, and distributed tracing.
• Experience with security concepts such as authentication, certificates, secrets management, and encryption.
• Experience building cloud platform services involving provisioning, orchestration, resource lifecycle management, or secure connectivity.
• Experience with multi‑cloud environments, multi‑tenant SaaS platforms, or enterprise security requirements.

Salary

The base salary range for this role in the United States is $140,000 to $160,000. This role is also eligible for a target annual bonus of 15% of base salary, based on individual and company performance. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, this role includes clear forms of additional compensation, such as: A monthly Connectivity Plus stipend of $150 to support remote work-related expenses An annual $200 home office reimbursement
