Job summary

Northwestern Mutual is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Milwaukee to design, build, modernize, and support critical applications within the Field Rewards portfolio. You will develop cloud-native microservices and user interfaces, automate operations, and drive modernization initiatives.

You will work with JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD in an Agile environment to deliver scalable solutions and reliable deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
• 4+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and React
• Backend services and APIs using Node.js
• Knowledge of microservices and cloud-native development
• Experience with relational databases and data processing
• Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and DevOps practices
• Agile team experience

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain web applications, APIs and microservices
• Modernize legacy applications and migrate to cloud-native architectures
• Design batch processing, data integration and automation solutions
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Containerize and deploy using Kubernetes and cloud platforms
• Support production releases and troubleshoot issues
• Collaborate with architects, engineers and partners
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices
