As part of the Product Engineering, Streaming, Disney+ Playback, Disney eXperience Composer Team, you will help us push the boundaries of what is possible in the interactive Playback experience! You’ll be part of the team that builds our Direct-to-Consumer client apps, such as Disney+, ESPN and Hulu on our many supported technical platforms and devices.

Job Summary:

We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will be an outstanding addition to our Chromecast - Video Playback team. The right person for this role is highly motivated, collaborative, and technical, with the ability to coordinate across teams and empower both themselves and others in striving for and achieving excellence. Everything we do directly affects millions of global consumers, their experience with our service, and impacts our business.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Rapidly prototype and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable code with an advanced skillset and experience using Chromecast and TypeScript, JavaScript, and other web development technologies.
  • Work closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineering leadership to build best-of-class, delightful streaming experiences.
  • Collaborate with other developers to build, review, and deliver well-tested, maintainable features to the Chromecast receiver app.
  • Use data and experimentation to reinforce the value of new product functionality, ensure that we are providing the best experience possible for our viewers, and continuously improve our applications.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in front-end application development with proficiency in writing optimized JavaScript (ES5 &ES6) and TypeScript with a low memory footprint.
  • Leadership, the ability to identify problems and drive towards solutions, and an eagerness to learn and teach new technologies & solve novel problems.
  • Experience building consumer-facing interactive experiences.
  • A deep understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.).
  • A deep understanding of architectures and coding techniques associated with the Javascript/Typescript programming languages.
  • Experience developing sophisticated user interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with our common development tools such as: GitHub, Confluence, JIRA, and MS Teams.
  • Experience building applications backed by web-services is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience developing for memory and CPU constrained devices.
  • Experience developing for the Chromecast receiver.
  • Launched or worked on an international product.
  • Strong experience with Scrum methodology.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree or better in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent job experience.


The hiring range for this position in New York and Washington is $145,400.00 - $195,000.00 per year and in California and Bristol is $138,900.00 - $186,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
