Job summary

BVNK Ltd is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join the Issuance team. You will design and build backend services powering the full token lifecycle, including mint and burn, on-chain integration, and audit trails, with a focus on reliability and security.

You will work in small autonomous squads, collaborating with Product, Design and other engineering domains to implement event-driven arcs, compliance controls, and scalable APIs for enterprise issuers.

Qualifications

• Backend engineer with production systems experience, Java (Kotlin welcome) and Spring Boot.
• Experience in designing microservices and event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar).
• Experience building high-integrity transactional systems with auditability.
• REST API design and secure webhook integrations for external customers.
• Cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containers and CI/CD pipelines.
• Security best practices, access control and RBAC in regulated environments.
• Strong ownership, clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Issuance platform development: design, build and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs for stablecoin issuance, including mint/burn flows and configuration.
• Compliance and control features: implement freeze/unfreeze, seizure, pause/resume, and maker-checker approvals.
• On-chain integration: connect backend with EVM-compatible contracts; ensure reliability and observability.
• Event-driven architecture: build signed webhooks and services to sync issuers and ledgers.
• Auditability: maintain tamper-evident audit trails and reconcile with accounting systems.
• Cross-domain collaboration with assets, ledger, identity and security teams.
• Technical leadership: architecture decisions, code reviews, mentoring, engineering best practices.
• Operational excellence: production ownership, monitoring, incident response, reliability improvements.

FUNCTION: Engineering

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join our Issuance team. The team is building BVNK’s stablecoin issuance capability, which lets enterprises launch and operate their own stablecoins on top of our infrastructure.

You’ll help design and build the backend services that power the full token lifecycle. That covers minting and burning, approval workflows, compliance controls such as freeze, unfreeze, seize and pause, and the APIs, webhooks and audit trails enterprise issuers rely on. Your work will connect on-chain smart contract operations to our wider platform, so issued tokens work smoothly across wallets, transfers, screening and conversion.

We work in small, autonomous squads that own their problem space. You’ll be expected to form strong opinions, work closely with Product, Design and other engineering domains, and push for the simplest solution that gets customers what they need, moving fast but sustainably.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

• Issuance platform development: Design, build and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs for stablecoin issuance, including mint and burn flows, supply management and token configuration.
• Compliance and control features: Build the controls that regulated issuers need, such as freeze and unfreeze, seizure into quarantine, pause and resume, and maker-checker approvals.
• On-chain integration: Integrate backend services with smart contracts on EVM-compatible networks. Make sure blockchain interactions are reliable, idempotent and observable, and safe under failure.
• Event-driven architecture: Build event-driven services and signed webhooks that keep issuers, internal systems and ledgers in sync.
• Auditability and data integrity: Make sure every issuance action has a complete, tamper-evident audit trail and reconciles accurately with downstream accounting systems.
• Cross-domain collaboration: Work with digital assets, ledger, identity and access, financial crime and security teams to deliver features end to end.
• Technical leadership: Contribute to architecture decisions, review code, mentor other engineers and champion engineering best practice within the squad.
• Operational excellence: Own your services in production, including monitoring, alerting, incident response and continuous improvement of reliability and performance.

What we need from you:

• Backend expertise: Strong, proven experience as a backend engineer building production systems, ideally in Java (Kotlin also welcome) with Spring Boot.
• Distributed systems: Hands‑on experience designing microservices and event‑driven architectures, ideally with Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Financial systems mindset: Experience building high‑integrity transactional systems where correctness, idempotency, consistency and auditability are critical.
• API design: Experience designing clean, well‑documented REST APIs and secure webhook integrations for external customers.
• Cloud and infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS), containerisation and CI/CD pipelines.
• Security awareness: A solid grasp of secure coding practices, access control and role‑based permissions in regulated environments.
• Ownership and communication: You take ownership of outcomes, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and do well in a fast‑moving, collaborative environment.
• AI‑native mindset: You use AI tools and agentic workflows to speed up delivery and improve quality.
• Bonus: Blockchain and smart contracts: Experience with EVM‑compatible networks, ERC‑20 tokens, smart contract interaction (e.g. Web3j, ethers.js) or Solidity.
• Bonus: Stablecoins and digital assets: Previous experience with stablecoin issuance, tokenisation, custody or wallet infrastructure.
• Bonus: Compliance tooling: Familiarity with sanctions screening, Travel Rule or other regulatory controls for digital assets.
• Bonus: FinTech and payments: Experience in payments, banking or other regulated financial services.
