Job summary

Metropolitan Companies is seeking a Software Developer to build scalable backend services and intuitive web applications. You will work with a modern tech team on design, development, and deployment across multiple squads, reporting to the IT Director.

Requirements include 5+ years of hands-on software development, proficiency in Java, C++, Python, and web technologies, plus experience with React, Spring Boot, and modern CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required.
• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience expected.
• Strong proficiency in Java, C++, Python, HTML5 or similar languages.
• Mobile app development experience (Android/iOS) is a plus.
• Experience with React, Spring Boot, CSS3, JavaScript, Swift, JSON, Objective-C is preferred.
• Proficiency with build tools such as Apache Maven.
• Frontend development with TypeScript and Next.js is valued.
• Git for version control and Node.js/npm workflow familiarity required.
• Familiarity with environment variable management (e.g., .env, Doppler).
• Database experience with MS SQL Server or MySQL and ability to write docs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable backend and frontend applications.
• Support and enhance existing systems and in-progress builds.
• Create monitoring and automation tools for deployments and system health.
• Build and document APIs and integration layers.
• Interface with analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to understand business needs.
• Collaborate in design/code reviews and promote clean, testable code.
• Document technical processes and support deployment procedures.
• Contribute to CI/CD improvements and automation.
• Provide occasional cross-team technical support.
• Keep up with modern development best practices and toolsets.
