Job summary

Toast, Inc. in California is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our enterprise drive-thru team and help us build best-in-class drive-thru solutions that scale for hundreds of brands.

You will design, develop, and deploy features across backend services, Android apps in Kotlin, and web interfaces, collaborating with UX, PM, QA, and engineering to deliver reliable, scalable software while mentoring peers and driving engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining Android applications.
• Experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging systems, and/or microservices.
• Proficient with modern API standards and technologies (REST, GraphQL).
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
• Growth mindset with emphasis on improving yourself and your team.

About this role (Responsibilities)

Do you have the right ingredients? (Requirements)

• 5+ years of prior experience developing and maintaining Android applications

• Experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging systems, and/or microservices

• Proficient with modern API standards and technologies (e.g., REST, GraphQL)

• Strong leadership and mentoring skills

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences

• Balances getting things done with platform stability

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits. You can learn more about how we align pay with local labor markets in our Geographic Pay Zone Philosophy.

Pay Range

$138,000—$221,000 USD
