Job summary

Axion is seeking a senior Software Engineer to architect and scale the agentic systems at the core of the Axion platform. You will own design decisions for how our agents reason, act, and integrate with enterprise data, partnering with Engineering and Product leadership in a data-rich environment.

You will tackle non-deterministic, LLM-driven challenges, drive reliability in production, and mentor teammates while shipping impactful features in a fast-paced startup setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of software engineering experience with a recent focus on building agentic systems (LLM orchestration, tool/function calling, multi-step and multi-agent reasoning, retrieval and context engineering).
• Experience designing complex distributed systems, ideally in data-intensive B2B SaaS environments.
• Hands-on fluency with the modern agentic stack and understanding failure modes of non-deterministic, LLM-driven systems, plus the observability practices to tame them.
• Experience turning messy real-world data into something a model can reason over reliably.
• A track record of technical mentorship; ability to elevate teammates without formal authority.
• A Data First mindset and ability to make decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving contexts.
• Strong execution in fast-paced environments balancing MVP shipping with production-grade reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own technical architecture for agentic systems—orchestration, tool use, memory, retrieval, evaluation, observability, and guardrails for noisy data.
• Build and harden the reasoning layer and infrastructure from data ingestion to root-cause insight at scale.
• Establish rigorous evaluation and testing for non-deterministic systems—measure agent accuracy against ground truth and track outcomes like detection rates and costs.
• Partner with Engineering and Product to shape the technical vision and roadmap for the agent platform.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design docs, and clear technical direction.
• Mentor engineers on agentic patterns and system design, helping unblock hard problems.
