Job summary

ByteDance’s Seattle-based Search team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Data Agent & Agentic Search to join the Technology group. You’ll work on a fully managed, multi-source information retrieval and analytics platform and contribute to next-generation agentic search products, including RAG and multimodal retrieval.

The role emphasizes distributed systems, AI-driven search, and open-source collaboration, with a strong focus on scalable data foundations for AI-enabled enterprise

Qualifications

BS in Computer Science or a related field.
Strong coding and algorithm skills; proficient in Python, Java, C++, or Go.
Familiarity with LLMs, Agents, Search, RAG, or ML.
Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

Build Agentic Search and Analytics systems that combine planning, retrieval, reasoning, tool execution, and iterative agentic loops.
Develop multi-source and multimodal search across structured data, documents, images, audio, and video.
Build a unified semantic layer for heterogeneous enterprise data, including entities, metrics, metadata, and relationships.
Explore semantic accumulation and self-evolving agents that improve through interactions, memory, and history.
