Job summary

ByteDance, a leading tech company, is hiring for a Search/Vector Database engineer in Seattle. The role focuses on building and optimizing a fully managed platform for information retrieval, combining full-text and vector search across large-scale workloads.

You will work within a world-class team on next-generation Agentic Search products and open-source contributions. You will develop and optimize Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and Milvus integrations, push performance, and contribute to scalable

Qualifications

BS in Computer Science, AI, ML or related field.
Strong software engineering skills in at least one of C++, Golang, Java, or Python.
Experience with search engines, databases, storage systems, or distributed systems.

Responsibilities

Develop and evolve Elasticsearch/OpenSearch and Milvus products for high-performance search and vector retrieval.
Develop high-performance full-text and vector search, including hybrid search and large-scale ANN retrieval.
Optimize vector indexing and distributed retrieval across HNSW, IVF, DiskANN, RaBitQ, storage, caching, and I/O.
Explore cloud-native Vector Lakebase architectures for scalable search over data lakes and object storage.
