Job summary

D-Wave Quantum Inc. in the United States seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Systems Software Engineering team.

You will design and build core platform infrastructure, backend services, and user-facing features that enable reliable operation of our simulators and gate-model quantum computers. You will contribute to high-impact projects, mentor teammates, and deliver clean, scalable software while collaborating with scientists and applications engineers to translate complex requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on professional software development experience.
• Strong Python software development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one compiled or systems programming language (C++, Go, or Rust).
• Experience contributing to open-source software projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and applications engineers to translate requirements into technical specs and production solutions.
• Lead architecture and implementation of reliable, maintainable systems spanning simulators, quantum processor services, and platform infrastructure.
• Design and build tooling and core software used to develop, operate, and monitor quantum processors.
• Write clean, well-documented code and participate in design/code reviews for quality and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot issues, identify bottlenecks, and optimize performance and user experience.
• Contribute through the software lifecycle from requirements to deployment and production support.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

• Experience with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy
• Experience contributing to open‑source software projects
