About the Company
Join a venture-backed software company building modern infrastructure for satellite operations. Its platform allows commercial and government customers to command, monitor and operate different spacecraft and constellations through one scalable software environment.
The company was founded by experienced engineers and satellite operators who wanted to replace fragmented, highly customized ground systems with modern, reusable software.
- Approximately 70 employees with an engineering-led culture
- Meaningful equity and direct product influence
- Software supporting real commercial and government missions
- Small teams with significant technical ownership
- Opportunity to build foundational products rather than maintain legacy systems
- Collaborative environment spanning software, aerospace and mission operations
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to develop scalable mission-planning, scheduling, and optimization software supporting real-world satellite operations. The ideal candidate has strong Python and backend development experience in aerospace, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to build reliable, high-performance systems for complex operational challenges using AI-assisted practices.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop mission-planning, scheduling, and automation software for satellite operations
- Build reliable, high-performance backend services primarily using Python
- Develop and optimize algorithms for complex scheduling, planning, and resource allocation
- Design scalable APIs and distributed systems capable of supporting large satellite constellations
- Improve software performance, reliability, and efficiency for mission-critical operations
- Translate complex operational requirements into practical, scalable software solutions
- Collaborate with software engineers, flight dynamics specialists, satellite operators, and product teamsTake ownership of technical solutions from initial design through testing, deployment, and production support
- Contribute to technical decisions, mentor engineers, and use automation and AI-assisted tools to improve development efficiency
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend systems, optimization, planning, or related technical areas
- Strong Python programming skills and experience building production backend applications
- Experience developing high-performance software for low-latency or computationally intensive workloads
- Hands-on experience with optimization, scheduling, planning, or resource allocation algorithms
- Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, computational complexity, and performance optimization
- Experience with APIs, distributed systems, relational databases, and containerized cloud applications
- Knowledge of software architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and Git-based development
- Ability to independently manage complex software projects from initial design through deployment and production support
Preferred Skills
- Experience in flight dynamics, orbital mechanics, spacecraft operations, or aerospace simulation
- Ability to translate complex mission requirements into practical software and optimization solutions
- Familiarity with cislunar missions, trajectory planning, or Earth-Moon operations
- Strong understanding of algorithm performance, scalability, reliability, and optimization
- Ability to balance software architecture with practical development and delivery
- Strong technical ownership, mentoring skills, and experience using automation and AI-assisted development tools
Candidates must have an active TS/SCI clearance, with the ability to maintain it throughout employment and work from the office under the required hybrid schedule.
Why Consider It?
Work directly with spacecraft systems, solve complex integration challenges, and help shape software used in real satellite missions.
Outstanding benefits include:
unlimited PTO (minimum 15 days encouraged), 100% employee health insurance coverage, 4% 401(k) matching, quarterly wellness benefits, paid holidays, and equity.
