Senior Backend Java Engineer – NY (Hudson Square) – Contract 6-12 months

Position Summary

Mainz Brady Group is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer to design, build, and support scalable, high-availability backend services in an enterprise environment. This role combines hands-on software development with technical leadership, architecture, mentoring, and production support. The ideal candidate has strong Java expertise, cloud-native experience on AWS, and a proven track record building distributed systems and RESTful APIs.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and REST APIs using Java.
• Lead architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and root cause analysis.
• Build and support distributed, event-driven systems using Kafka, SQS, or similar messaging technologies.
• Develop cloud-native applications leveraging AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, SNS, and SQS.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using Git, Jenkins, Docker, and related DevOps tools.
• Monitor production systems using Datadog or similar observability platforms and participate in on-call support.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices, code quality, and Agile development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of backend Java development experience in production environments.
• Strong experience building RESTful APIs and distributed backend services.

• Strong knowledge of relational databases, NoSQL databases, caching, concurrency, and multithreading.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and Agile methodologies.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
