Job summary

FedWriters, Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join a DoD customer, integrating autonomy software and AI/ML for uncrewed systems. You will build integration software, data pipelines, and APIs inside a containerized DevSecOps environment, ensuring reliable operation at the tactical edge.

The role is on-site at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL, with standard hours and some travel to field test events, offering strong growth within a fast-growing defense tech team.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
• Minimum 5 years of software development and systems integration experience.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, and Java; strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes in a DevSecOps environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software to integrate autonomy capabilities and third-party algorithms into uncrewed platforms.
• Lead integration and testing of autonomy software in a DevSecOps pipeline using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Develop and manage APIs connecting software modules, payloads, and command-and-control systems.
• Architect data pipelines that process and load sensor data for AI/ML and data fusion applications.
• Serve as the program's software and autonomy subject matter expert with government and industry partners.
• Test and report on software performance, reliability, and security.
• Help build a scalable, adaptable open system architecture.

Overview

Join our team as a Senior Software Engineer and support a Department of Defense customer by integrating cutting-edge autonomy software and AI/ML algorithms onto uncrewed systems for special operations. You will build integration software, data pipelines, and APIs inside a containerized DevSecOps environment, ensure intelligent capabilities perform reliably at the tactical edge.

**Position is contingent upon contract award**

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, standard business hours at MacDill AFB and nearby Tampa, FL offices. Travel to field test events as required.

• Hands‑on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, test, and deployment
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and DevSecOps methodologies

Desired:

• Experience with autonomy, machine learning, or artificial intelligence algorithms
• Familiarity with open architectures such as Open Mission Systems (OMS)
• Experience with government rapid-innovation cells, SOF common mission architectures, and government autonomy suites
