Job summary

REALM is seeking a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to join our AI fintech platform in San Francisco or New York City. You will build reliable backend services, scale core platform capabilities, and shape the microservices architecture that powers enterprise workflows.

You’ll own end-to-end delivery of core features, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to drive AI-enabled infrastructure for financial institutions. Hybrid work, 3 days in office.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software engineering with 2+ years using Go or Java in production.
• Experience on platform teams contributing to system architecture.
• Comfortable working with AI workflows and cross-functional collaboration.

Senior/Staff Backend Engineer | AI Fintech | $170k-$240k + Equity | SF or NYC

We're hiring on behalf of a well-funded Series A fintech building AI-powered infrastructure for financial institutions. The platform helps banks and credit unions modernise how they handle complex, high-volume operational workflows - replacing fragmented legacy tools with a single intelligent system.

They've seen strong early traction with real enterprise customers and are scaling the engineering team to match.

What you'll be doing:

• Building and maintaining reliable backend systems that integrate with credit card networks, banking platforms, and merchants
• Scaling core platform services to support a growing and diverse customer base
• Designing microservices architecture and core libraries that other engineers build on
• Owning end-to-end delivery of key features - from tech stack decisions through to deployment
• Mentoring engineers and leading projects as the technical owner

What they're looking for:

• 6+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years using Go or Java in production
• Experience on platform teams with meaningful contributions to system architecture
• Comfortable working with AI workflows
• Clear communicator who can lead a team and work cross-functionally

Compensation: $170,000 - $240,000 base + equity

Location: Hybrid - SF or NYC (3 days/week in office)
