Job summary

Wintermeyer Ventures is seeking a senior backend engineer to join a lean team building an AI-powered documentation platform for the home health industry. You will own backend services, scale existing products, and drive Generative AI workflows with a focus on reliability and security.

You have 5+ years of backend experience, strong Python, and hands-on experience with APIs and distributed systems. This hybrid role is based in San Francisco, CA, with visa sponsorship not available.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
• Experience at an early-stage startup (pre-seed through Series A/B) or zero-to-one projects at a larger company.
• Track record of independently owning and shipping projects with minimal oversight.
• Strong proficiency in Python for backend development.
• Experience building distributed systems, APIs, or data-heavy backend architectures.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, FastAPI, or AWS.
• Signal of technical excellence through CS fundamentals, leadership roles, or standout projects.
• Experience with production LLM or Generative AI systems is a plus.
• Interest or experience in healthcare/HealthTech AI is a plus.

About the Role

This is a core engineering position on a small, lean team of ten engineers building an AI-powered documentation platform for the home health industry. You will take on significant ownership across backend services and infrastructure, helping scale existing products and drive new Generative AI and LLM-driven workflows. The work directly reduces documentation burden for clinicians, giving them more time for patient care.

What You’ll Do

• Build and ship complex backend services and infrastructure that interface with LLMs and Generative AI models.
• Own zero-to-one projects from early prototyping and MVPs through to scalable, secure, and reliable production systems.
• Help scale widely adopted products as the platform expands to more healthcare organizations.
• Improve backend architecture, observability, and code quality standards across the codebase.
• Collaborate within a flat engineering structure, working directly with fellow engineers and senior technical leadership.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong backend focus.
• Background at an early-stage startup (pre-seed through Series A/B), or demonstrated zero-to-one building experience at a larger company.
• Track record of independently owning and shipping projects with minimal oversight.
• Strong proficiency in Python for backend development.
• Experience building distributed systems, APIs, or data-heavy backend architectures.
• Hands-on experience with one or more of: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, FastAPI, or AWS.
• Demonstrated signal of technical excellence, such as strong academic CS fundamentals, meaningful leadership roles, or standout project work.
• Experience with production LLM or Generative AI systems is a plus.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in healthcare or HealthTech AI is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $190,000 to $230,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
