Job summary

Strategic Employment Partners (SEP) seeks an engineer to move fluidly across the stack, powering day-to-day transactions and shaping a growing platform. You will own parts of a large-scale production system, build services, and work with data pipelines and AI tooling in a collaborative team.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in product tech, strong Python/Java skills, and experience with Azure, containers, and SQL databases.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as an engineer at a product or technology company.
• Cloud platform experience, ideally within the Microsoft ecosystem, plus containerized environments.
• Proficiency in Python and Java.
• Experience with relational databases and large-scale data.
• Curiosity about applying AI tooling to engineering work.
• Retail/ecommerce or high-transaction-volume experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own meaningful parts of a large-scale production system used by a substantial customer base.
• Build services and integrations that other teams and downstream systems depend on.

• Participate in architecture discussions and mentor newer engineers.

An established name in online retail technology is expanding its product engineering team and wants someone who can move fluidly across the stack, from the services that power day-to-day transactions down into the data feeding them. This isn't a rebuild-from-scratch situation; it's a chance to shape how a platform that already serves a large customer footprint keeps evolving, using modern tooling (including AI-assisted coding) alongside solid engineering fundamentals.

Type: Full-time

Salary: $150–180k (DOE) + Bonus and Benefits

What the role involves

• Owning meaningful parts of a large-scale production system used by a substantial customer base
• Building services and integrations that other teams and downstream systems depend on
• Getting hands-on with the data side (pipelines, storage, performance) and not just application code
• Sitting in on architecture and design conversations, and helping newer engineers grow

Background that fits

• Several years (5+) as an engineer at a product or technology company
• Cloud platform experience, ideally within the Microsoft ecosystem, plus comfort with containerized environments
• Fluency in more than one modern programming language, with Python and Java both in the mix
