Job summary

Rachel Paul Recruiting is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a Portfolio Implementation role at a global investment management firm. Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep Java expertise.
• Strong Python skills in production or research-adjacent environments.
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with microservice technologies: Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL/MS SQL Server.
• Strong engineering practices: code quality, automated testing, observability, and monitoring (e.g., New Relic).
• Ability to lead technical change, manage risk, and deliver in complex environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of portfolio platforms that consume research outputs, perform constrained optimizations, and generate orders.
• Own and evolve distributed, microservice-based systems built for reliability and scale.
• Drive complex, cross-cutting initiatives spanning multiple services and teams.
• Provide technical leadership to small engineering teams (2–5 engineers), including design reviews and execution oversight.

The Team

You’ll join the Portfolio Implementation engineering team, designing and delivering mission-critical systems that translate research outputs into portfolio decisions and orders.
