Job summary

Rampart Communications, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect and optimize low-latency C++ applications powering our core platforms. You will collaborate with DSP, FPGA, hardware, and product teams to deploy real-time software and scalable infrastructure.

The role requires deep expertise in modern C++ and Python, Linux systems, and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines. Onsite at Rampart HQ in Maryland, you will mentor junior staff and contribute to architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering in high-performance or low-level systems (15+ years preferred).
• Expert-level Modern C++ (C++17+) and Python (3.10+).
• Experience with Linux systems programming, Linux networking, Git and CMake.

Responsibilities

• Core Systems Architecture: Design high-performance C++ apps and interfaces for ARM and x86.
• Performance Engineering: Profile, debug, and optimize for low latency.
• Cross-functional integration with DSP, FPGA, Hardware, and Product teams.
• Infrastructure & tooling: build CI/CD frameworks and developer tooling.
• Technical leadership: mentor engineers in cryptographic and DSP domains.

The Impact You'll Make

As a Senior / Principal Software Engineer, you will architect, build, and optimize low-latency, highly reliable C++ applications and interfaces that power our core product platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Core Systems Architecture: Design high-performance C++ applications and interfaces optimized for ARM and x86 platforms.
• Performance Engineering: Profile, debug, and enhance legacy and modern C++ implementations for maximum execution efficiency and low latency.
• Cross-Functional Integration: Partner closely with DSP, FPGA, Hardware, and Product teams to transition theoretical algorithms into real-time production software.
• Infrastructure & Tooling: Design shared engineering frameworks, developer tooling, and modern CI/CD architecture to elevate technical standards across the engineering org.
• Technical Leadership: Mentor mid-level and junior engineers while expanding your own technical depth across cryptographic and DSP domains.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field of study.
• Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience in high-performance or low-level systems (15+ years preferred).
• Languages: Expert-level mastery of Modern C++ (C++17 or later) and Python (3.10+).
• Ecosystem: Deep experience with Linux systems programming, Linux networking, Git, and CMake.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Embedded Linux development or kernel-level debugging.
• Parallel computing architectures (e.g., CUDA, OpenCL).
• Familiarity with tools like Docker, ZeroMQ, Wireshark, MATLAB, or Julia.
• Exposure to Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Cryptography, or Forward Error Correction.
