Tempus in Chicago is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance our Genomics AI initiatives. You will lead analysis, design robust systems, and mentor engineers, applying full-stack expertise, relational data systems, and algorithmic development.

You will integrate Generative AI APIs into user-facing apps, work with Node.js, NestJS, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, and GCP, and help shape scalable microservices in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of advanced TypeScript/JavaScript development with Node.js/NestJS.
• Expert-level React development and UI component design.
• Experience integrating GenAI APIs and AI tooling into production apps.
• Proven ability to design distributed microservice architectures.
• Strong PostgreSQL query optimization and Redis caching knowledge.

As a senior technical leader, you will be expected to craft high-quality code while leveraging modern AI tooling, integrating Generative AI APIs into user-facing applications, and embedding agentic workflows into our core product ecosystem. **Technical Requirements** * 5+ years of advanced TypeScript/JavaScript development with deep understanding of language features and optimization techniques.* Extensive experience architecting and leading development with Node.js and NestJS frameworks.* Expert-level React development with demonstrated ability to design and implement complex component systems.* Hands-on experience leveraging GenAI coding tools and autonomous agents (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, LLM APIs) to accelerate development, refactor codebases, and auto-generate comprehensive unit/integration tests.* Experience or strong working knowledge of integrating LLM APIs and GenAI technologies into production applications.* Advanced PostgreSQL skills including query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.* Proven expertise implementing sophisticated Redis caching solutions for high-throughput systems.* Demonstrated success designing and implementing distributed microservice architectures.* Significant experience orchestrating infrastructure and applications on GCP, including CI/CD pipelines.* Mastery of enterprise-level design patterns and their practical application in large-scale, mission-critical systems. **What Makes You a Great Fit*** 7+ years of software development experience with a track record of technical leadership.* Ability to make high-impact architectural decisions that balance business needs with technical considerations.* Enthusiasm for championing AI-assisted development practices, driving adoption of agentic workflows, and mentoring teams through the evolving landscape of AI tools.* History of successfully delivering complex projects in fast-paced environments.* Strong communication skills with experience presenting technical solutions to diverse stakeholders.* Proven ability to drive cross-team technical initiatives and resolve complex engineering challenges. **Bonus Points*** Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.* Experience with containerization orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).* Background in biotech, genomics, or precision medicine.* Success leading system migrations between cloud platforms (e.g., AWS to GCP).
