My client is hiring a Senior / Lead Backend Software Engineer to help build the logistics technology backbone required for large-scale combat operations. This is a high-ownership role at the intersection of advanced logistics algorithms, AI-enabled systems, and complex, real-world integrations—all in direct support of the warfighter at the tactical edge.

You’ll play a key role in shaping core backend systems, influencing technical direction, and ensuring production-grade reliability for software deployed in operational environments. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, product leaders, and operational experts who prioritize impact, mission outcomes, and engineering excellence.

Base pay range

$165,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr

Seniority level: Mid-Senior level. Employment type: Full-time.

What You’ll Do

• Own the design, development, and deployment of backend systems that power mission‑critical logistics software.
• Lead the development and evolution of core platform services supporting tactical and operational logistics workflows.
• Design and implement scalable APIs, data pipelines, and integrations across diverse and often constrained systems.
• Drive architectural decisions to ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability in production environments.
• Build systems that deliver real‑time visibility, predictive insights, and optimized logistics workflows.
• Participate in—and often lead—technical design reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
• Serve as a technical escalation point for production issues, driving rapid diagnosis and resolution.
• Collaborate closely with military stakeholders, product managers, and engineers to translate real-world sustainment needs into robust software solutions.
• Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and mentorship of junior engineers.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience building and shipping production-grade backend systems or distributed software.
• Proven experience designing APIs, data pipelines, and system integrations at scale.
• Experience owning systems end-to-end, from design through deployment and ongoing operation.
• Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally in mission-driven environments.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience building software for defense, aerospace, or other complex, high-reliability domains.
• Familiarity with logistics, supply chain, or sustainment systems (especially in military contexts).
• Experience deploying and operating systems in cloud environments (AWS, Kubernetes) and/or Edge environments.
• Exposure to data engineering, analytics, or machine learning in operational or production settings.
