Job summary

Clairity, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend/Infrastructure) to own core backend systems, APIs, and deployment infrastructure. You will drive secure, observable services and partner with ML/data teams on end-to-end pipelines.

You’ll shape architecture, influence best practices, and mentor engineers while delivering production-grade, scalable systems powering AI-based healthcare products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Software Engineering or 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Expert-level Python for backend services, automation, and data processing.
• Experience managing complex Terraform IaC codebases.
• Hands-on AWS infrastructure experience (EKS/ECS, Lambda, VPCs).
• Experience with databases, distributed systems, APIs, testing, CI/CD, and security practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication with cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of core backend systems including design, deployment, and scaling of services and APIs.
• Support data pipelines and ML deployment by collaborating with data and MLOps teams.
• Lead third-party integrations with external systems.
• Influence architecture, coding standards, testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Mentor engineers and provide guidance on system design and debugging.

Where You Fit

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Software Engineer (Backend/Infrastructure) will lead the design and delivery of complex backend systems that power our AI-based healthcare products. You'll make sound technical decisions within your area, ship reliably, and help set the bar for code quality and robust system design across the engineering organization.

This is a role with significant ownership of core backend services and deployment infrastructure-as-code. You’ll battle with ambiguity, propose new system architectures, and see them through to production. You will partner closely with ML and data teams on shared systems, with real autonomy over how the work gets done and meaningful input into what we build next.

What You’ll Do

• Own the Full Lifecycle of Core Backend Systems - Design, build, deploy, maintain, and scale services, APIs, and platform infrastructure. Ensure security, reliability, and observability.
• Support Data Pipelines & ML Deployment - Partner with data and MLOps engineers to build and refine pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analytics. Own the infrastructure supporting ML model deployment and inference.
• Lead Third-Party Integrations - Work with technology partners to design and build connections with external systems.
• Influence Architecture & Best Practices - Shape backend architecture, coding standards, testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor Engineers - Provide technical leadership and guidance on system design, debugging, and engineering practices.

What You Bring

Required

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Expert-level skills using Python for building backend services, automation tools, and data processing systems.
• Experience managing complex Terraform IaC codebases.
• Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure: EKS/ECS, Lambda, VPCs and networking.
• Some history designing and operating databases, distributed systems, and APIs - including the tradeoffs, failure modes, and observability.
• Strong testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure security practices: secret management, encryption, least-privilege access.
• Clear written and verbal communication with engineering, scientific, and clinical colleagues.

Nice to Have

• Background in healthcare or another regulated domain - HIPAA, PHI handling, or software developed under design controls.
• Knowledge of medical imaging or clinical data interoperability standards: DICOM, HL7, FHIR.
• Experience designing data contracts for external partner integrations.
• Experience with Metaflow or other modern workflow orchestrators.
